This week I have decided to join two groups according to what I like: hiking in California and cooking.
As a consequence, I have post a comment under a post to join the conversation in the cooking group and publish a post in the hiking group .
The first group is called The Cook's Cook Community Forum. In this group there are a lot of interactions, every day people are posting a picture of what they are cooking with sometimes recipes and advices. So I commented a post concerning homemade mozzarella.
The second group is California Hiking Group. Since I am in California I did different hikes and I found that it could be interesting to know where to go next and to share experiences about it.
As I am going to Joshua tree tomorrow, I asked recommendations about hikes: 3 persons responded to me, with nice advices. I found that American people are really responsive (more than French for example) which is very pleasant.
Participating in the community allows to be part of it and to feel close of the users even if you don't know them.
To me, the strengths of those group is the unity: you want to help others the same way they help you, but also the interaction: you share values with the other members.
In Social Media Networks/groups you can learn what your target market think about a product or service and it will helps you to improve it. It also accelerates world of mouth.
The weaknesses of using Social Media Networks is that you have to maintain the group, otherwise it will progressively fall apart. Then, trolls can be a problem because there is always a part you can't control in those groups.
This experience was interesting and it's nice to see how people can share their experiences with such passion.
Hi Laure! I'm jealous that you are going to Joshua tree. I agree with your opinion that American people are really responsive. I was nervous about joining a group at first because I expected that nobody will comment. However, many people gave me feedback, and they are helpful and new for me.
